FORMER DONA ANA COUNTY COMMISSIONER BILL McCAMLEY DECLARES
FOR PUBLIC REGULATION COMMISSION
(Las Cruces)- Bill McCamley today declared his intention to run for the Public Regulation Commission seat being vacated by Sandy Jones.
“Ethics, health care, energy and economic development will be my focus and my mission on the commission,” McCamley said. “We need a new era of ethical leadership with leaders who are focused on putting people ahead of special interests and narrow agendas.”
McCamley has a strong record on ethics during his tenure on the Doña Ana County Commisson. He established a new ethics ordinance and representing local governments on the 2007 State Ethics Panel. He is currently a member of the state board for Common Cause, and has authored a column on the effects of corruption.
He also has many successes in both the renewable energy and health care fields. Regarding clean energy, he pushed to establish residential solar energy districts in the state as a County
Commissioner and worked with the community of Logan, on a wind energy project. “New Mexico has a huge potential to become a leader in the renewable energy industry. It is important that we grasp it for both the job opportunities it will bring to the state and for the interests of national security in decreasing the reliance we have on countries like Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and Russia for oil. New Mexico must be a national leader on new energy. New Mexico must be a national leader in new energy”
McCamley also has had success in health care reform by working with providers in Doña Ana County to increase communication with each other and therefore increase efficiency in providing care. This has lead to the provisions of more care to more people. “I have a unique perspective since I’ve worked on health policy and I’ve also gone without health insurance. As health insurance reform moves forward in America, the PRC has the authority to create and enforce regulations
over the state health insurance industry. We must protect the average citizen in New Mexico so that costs are cut and that everyone has access to coverage.”
In addition to his service on the county commission, McCamley has worked as a college teacher at Doña Ana Community College and New Mexico State University, on rural economic development issues at the New Mexico Rural Development Council work and worked as a development executive at NMSU. He has also been a real estate agent at Grubb and Ellis Commerical Real Estate. He has degrees from NMSU and Harvard University. McCamley was narrowly defeated by Harry Teague 52%-48% in the Democratic Primary for US Congress in 2008 despite being outspent
3-1.
“The PRC impacts on the pocketbooks of so Southwestern New Mexico families. I want to fight for and create policies that protect the best interests of the everyday person.”
